Accessibility for Online Courses, Blackboard Ally Preview When: Friday, March 1, 2019 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM CST Where: Online – Blackboard Collaborate (link provided below) Accessibility is an important subject that everyone should be thinking about when designing any kind of course related materials (regardless of whether the course is taught as face-to-face, hybrid, or fully online!). When you create materials for your course(s), it is important to keep Section 504, Section 508, and Universal Design principles in mind. Adhering to these standards will not only benefit students with disabilities, but it will help assure that all of your students will be able to access and use the content that you want to share with them. This First Friday training session will provide viewers with a brief overview of accessibility expectations as set out by Section 508/504, tips and tricks on how to make different types of shared content mediums accessible, and a brief preview of our newest Blackboard component to assist with better accessibility support – Ally! Jennifer Lee from OC Global will be presenting and Julie Lyon and Sabina KC of OC Global will be moderating. See below for a list of the features that will be presented: Here are some of the topics we will be talking about! – Brief Introduction on Section 508/504 – Universal Design Principles – How to make audio files accessible – How to make images accessible – How to make text accessible – How to make attached files (including .docx, ppt, and .pdf) accessible – Preview of Blackboard Ally and how it can help your courses! – And more! This training session will be held virtually via Blackboard Collaborate. You can attend this session from the convenience of your office or home! If you plan to attend this session, make sure that you have the latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox installed on your computer (these are the recommended browsers for using Blackboard Collaborate). A webcamera / microphone IS NOT required to participate. You can have these if you like, but they are not necessary. This session will count for 1 hour of Technology credit for Professional Development. |
